Ons – O Grove Nature Complex

Where the river Umia meets the Atlantic ocean there is an astonishing natural environment of ecosystems formed by vast sandy areas, intertidal spaces and marshes. It also forms the only coastal lagoon in the entire province of Pontevedra: A Bodeira.

This nature complex is situated between the rias of Arousa and Pontevedra, on the western edge of the region and the peninsula of O Salnés, next to Portonovo and Sanxenxo.

It is a prime location for migratory aquatic birds which stopover in this habitat to rest, feed, hibernate and breed.

This environment is considered a Place of Importance for the Community (L.I.C.) and has been recognised as a Special Area for the Protection of Birds (Z.E.P.A).
